Not quiet as early start as yesterday but once again we grabbed a takeaway breakfast to have on the train to Bern. The trip took less than an hour so just enough time to enjoy my Bircher muesli with views of the passing lake & mountains. We had 3 hours in Bern to explore so we put our bags in a locker & grabbed a map from the tourist info. The centre of town was once again old with cobblestones streets & fancy clocks on ye olde towers but instead of a lake it was set high above one side of a river. Walking around the back of the parliament building (as this is the capital) we had views down to the river & over the roofs of nearby houses. Following the narrow cobbled streets to the end of the old town we crossed the bridge to see the Bear Park. The symbol of Bern is the bear so they have a pretty large area on the banks of the river fenced off for four bears who were quiet active as we watched them munching on carrots & wandering around. Across from the park is an old tram depot which has been converted to a microbrewery & restaurant. Accidentally finding it meant we had to stop to taste the beers, although I wasn't very impressed with any of the four. With a bit over an hour until our train we walked back through the centre thoroughfare of the city to the station for a quick lunch before getting our train to Geneva- about 2 hours away. Arriving in Geneva it was about a 10min walk to our accommodation where we had a studio apartment which had side views to Lake Geneva. Doing some hand washing & Internet we set out for a wander around the Lake & to find out about the steam paddler cruises. The Jet l'eau wasn't spraying water into the air this afternoon so hopefully it is back going tomorrow. We ended up stopping for an afternoon dessert at Movenpick where we shared three scoops of ice-cream with little pots of toppings- all delicious! Wandering a little further we decided to make some use of the free transport cards we got & took a short ride on a tram (for Sean's sake :-p). Starting to think about dinner we checked the menu of an Asian restaurant & not wanting to pay 22 CHF ($25) for a Thai curry I decided that we should make use of the kitchen we had as it was hard to say when was the next time I would be able to cook. We surprisingly had some difficulty locating a supermarket as there is normally at least a small one on every block but ended up at Manor Food which had endless options. I settled on a simple Teriyaki chicken broccoli stir fry with rice. Back at the studio I found my way around the kitchen & once we had enjoyed our home cooked meal we found some English tv & stayed in.
