This morning we were heading for Switzerland & our first ride on a TGV train. We had arranged to meet Jean, the flat owner, at 9am to give back the keys- or so we thought as there had inevitably been some communication break down as when we called at 9.20 he said just leave the keys on the bench. The public transport system being so good we were soon at Gare de Lyon with plenty of time to get some takeaway lunch for the train before our platform was announced & we were off to find our upstairs seat on the 10.23 to Zurich. The train was so modern & clean with a little screen above the seat number which stated where the seat was reserved to & TVs at the end of the carriages showing the next stop & once we got out to the French country side the speed as well. We got up to 320km a hour so we were soon whisked towards Zurich arriving in 4hrs. Once we had found cash & worked out a ticket for the trams we headed to our hotel (The Mercure Stoller) & who was sitting outside with a beer in front of him waiting for us but The Mace! Quickly checking in we headed back down to join him for a drink or two in the outside cafe area before catching the tram back into the city area for this evenings festivities which were at Ian's oldest daughters cafe/rooftop bar launch on top of a department store. We meet up with Ian's cousins from Glasgow on the way there & once we arrived it was free drinks & food all round!! I had a couple of fruit smoothie cocktails & enjoyed the finger food as it came around. Over the course of the evening we were introduced to most of the guests going to the wedding tomorrow. It was also a big festival in Zurich over the weekend so we enjoyed an amazing view over the city skyline & a free air show as planes looped & dived in formation overhead. We left just after 10pm to catch the tram back to the hotel but when we got to the tram stop there seemed to be no trams. We went in search of another tram line & after deciphering the German on a sign I worked out that the they were not running right along their normal line but going a loop due to the festival. Finally a tram which would get us home trundled along to take us back to the hotel & bed.
