Flying to Spain this morning we were up early to take the train to the airport for our 10.10 flight to Barcelona. The hour forty flight, though a few minutes late went smoothly enough & then we were on the train to Sants Station to sort out reservations for our train to Madrid in a few days. Little did we know that we would be sitting on some hard wooden chairs for close to an hour & a half watching numbers tick over excruciatingly slowly until our ticket number came up & we took all of one minute to complete our reservation. Thankful to be on the move again we took the metro to our accommodation near Placa de Catalunya then soon started to wander down towards the top of Las Ramblas stopping about half way for a drink & some people watching. The happy hour special was a litre of beer for €6 & a half litre of sangria for €4.90 hence we enjoyed our drinks & spent a while watching the crowds stream by. Getting hungry we wandered to the bottom of Las Ramblas before heading half way back to Placa Real (Royal square) to seek out the restaurant where I had memorable Paella in 2001. I'm fairly certain we ended up at the same place & once again I enjoyed a very good seafood & chicken paella. On our way back to our accommodation we stopped at a small bar/cafe for a €1 beer before calling it a night.
