Brenton Kovacs's Travels
29th
Today we must leave Lisbon and fly to Madrid. With the flight not till 3pm, there is no rush. After a well deserved sleep in we pack and head for the airport. Its a short flight, 1 hour, and we land in Madrid ok. We take the bus to our apartment but instead of the subway. Our host said this was his preferred choice. Well after sitting in a traffic jam for sometime i think maybe the subway might have been the better choice. Anyway we arrive at the apartment which is very nice new and modern. Quick dash to the supermarket to get some tea and we are done for the night.

Today is a magnificent day. Perfect blue sky day. We walk into the city and take in the main attractions. So many people everywhere. Madrid strikes me as a very large clean city with incredibly wide footpaths and main roads. It is a very pretty city with green parks all over the city.
The Madrid Palace is open today and its the last day of the year it will be open, so we must visit it today. Now if you have an EU passport you get free admission after 4pm. Saves having to pay 11 euros each. We arrive on the queue at 3.20pm and there would be about 100 people in front of us. Just before 4pm i look over my shoulder to see how long the queue is. There would have to be 500 plus in the queue.
We are granted entry and they make sure everyone has an EU passport. There are 2,800 rooms in the Palace, and we get to see 28 of them. Some of the rooms are just breathtaking. You are not allowed to take pictures, but i managed to get a few. The armoury is just as spectacular. After nearly 2 hours we have seen all we can. Would be the best Palace we have every visited. Absolutely stunning.
Its a subway ride home as we have been on our feet since 10am and have not sat all day, so the legs are looking for a rest.

Another magnificent day. It might start off at minus 3 but warms to 15 degrees. The day is spent wandering the pedestrians only streets of Madrid and some beautiful parks. One park we walk through is huge and packed with people. There is another park which we wont be walking through. Its 1,700 hectares.

Yes another great day. With everything closed today we dont leave the apartment till after lunch and walk into town. Lots of people out walking and the odd cafe that is open is very busy. Lost of walking and exploring. Really like Madrid with all its green space.

Today was a very relaxing day hanging out in the city pedestrian malls having a few coffees and people watching. Will miss Madrid, as we leave for Marrakech tomorrow.
