Brenton Kovacs's Travels
8th
Well it is a great day to be leaving Thessaloniki. It is pouring with rain. I leave for the bus stop which is a 20 minute walk away. Yes i did get wet, but it is only water. miss the airport bus by seconds, now its a 20 minute wait for he next one. The next bus arrives and it is already packed, so i have to do some pushing to get on. I dont know how the driver can see as all the windows are fogged up.
We finally arrive after 40 minutes and now its the waiting game. The flight leaves at 4pm and arrives at 4.15pm. Its a one hour flight to Belgrade. At 4.30pm in Belgrade its very dark. I take the airport to city bus and then walk 10 minutes to my accommodation. Its in a old building overlooking a beautiful square and Parliament House. very nice view.
The apartment is huge, old but has lots of character.

Slept reasonable well considering all the new different noises this place has. Unfortunately the weather is against me today with light drizzle and about 7 degrees. My walks takes me along the pedestrian mall towards the river and the park where the castle is located. Its not a great day for photos.
Walking across the bridge to the large new shopping complex is a wet experience. The buses go very close to the edge of the road and splash water all over the foot path. Well i get wet once and only once. had to watch for puddles and the buses approaching.
The shopping centre was a place to dry out and warm up. Nothing exciting. So rather than walk back i jump on a tram. Have no idea how to pay, so i do some fare evading.

Still no sunshine, but on the bright side its stopped raining. This makes it a lot easier to see the city and to take pictures. So off we go to see all the main attractions including the Fort, National Bank, Cathedrals etc. Even if it only got to 2 degrees C, i dressed according and did not feel the cold. Great day, the cold air makes one feel alive and motivated to walk. Must have done about 10ks without breaking into a sweat..
Found an outdoor food market and spent some time wandering around taking in the amazing smells of meat being grilled, coffee being roasted, bread being baked. Oh so good.
Tomorrow its a 7 hour train ride to Zagreb, where i might get some sunshine.
