Brenton Kovacs's Travels
21st
Today is off to Copenhagen. It's a smooth and short flight from Oslo to Copenhagen, about 1 hour. I am sitting next to a guy from Chicago who I talk to for half of the flight, and a lady form Denmark, who I talk to for the other half. Both very interesting people. Turns out the lady has been to Adelaide, worked at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and lived in Glenelg. Small world.
The metro ride from the airport to my accommodation only takes half an hour. It is another apartment booked on Airbnb. The guy who owns the apartment is out of town, so there is a young lady waiting to give me the keys. Her name is Agnes, and we only talk briefly as she is in a hurry. But I did find out Agnes is from Hungary and I tell her that I am a Hungarian passport holder. Well she invites me to dinner on the 24th.
As soon as I have unpacked its off to the supermarket to stock up on food for the week. I then talk a stroll along the pedestrian mall, 1.2ks long. It’s the longest in Europe. The weather is ok with some light drizzle.

Well today I am being joined by Alan. He has decided to fly to Copenhagen and join me on my travels. He will be with me when we go to Milan and Zurich, and fly home from Zurich. He loves travelling as well.
So its off to the airport and I get there just as his flight lands. Well its nearly 1.5hours before he exits the arrival hall. It is great to see him, and we head back to the apartment.
The rest of the day is spent walking around the city.
23rd
Today we continue our quest to see as much as possible on foot. It’s the Town Hall where we spend a few hours. It’s a huge, magnificent old building. There is the World Clock on display, which to me is an engineering masterpiece. We are lucky with the weather as it’s a nice day with sunshine.
24th
More sightseeing before we head over to have dinner with Agnes. I have told her Alan will be coming, but we have no idea on who or how many people will be there. The apartment is a short train ride and then a short walk. Its a very nice residential area with some very nice residential buildings. There is no elevator in the building, so we climb the stairs to the 4th floor. Agnes is there to greet us along with 3 other girls. Turns out that’s all the people for dinner.
We arrived there at 4pm and spend the next 2 hours engaged in conversation. Two of the girls are from Romania and one is from Latvia while Agnes is from Hungary. For dinner we have traditional Hungarian food, Stuffed cabbage leaves with sauerkraut. The food was great, and I must make this one day. Apple pie for desert tops of a great evening of food. It was so good to listen to the girls stories about their lives in their home country. They all have stories of hardship to tell. They are here in Denmark studying. Denmark offers free university to all EU citizens. All have part-time jobs to cover living expenses. As it is very expensive to live in Copenhagen, the girl from Latvia live out of town. She commutes 2 hours each day by train.
What a great night, but its time we left and we arrive back home around 10pm.
25th
We are off walking again and head to a place called Christiana. This is the mini Amsterdam of Denmark. There are 3 rules you must follow once you enter.
No pictures, no running, have fun.
They are selling weed and hash quite openly. It was ok to see, but not a highlight. It is tolerated by the government even though it is considered illegal.
Its getting late in the day so we head back to the apartment. The apartment is in a building which was built in 1782, and mostly original except for kitchen and bathroom updates. It’s a really cool place right in the middle of the old city. It has so much character with the timber and brick walls and painted wooden floor.
Tomorrow we fly to Milan, Italy. Unfortunately it’s a 10am flight, so will need to be up early. This will be the first time we have flown with Easyjet, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
