Brenton Kovacs's Travels
Oh yes another bus ride, but this one is only 4.5 hours. Not much scenery to be seen as the fog is so thick, but it does clear about an hour from Paris. After taking the metro i arrive at my accommodation. Its pretty small, but i suppose by Paris standards its normal. Paris is such a big city, pretty dirty in parts, and so crowded and noisy.
Took a train ride to Versailles to visit the Palace. Very impressive. It was rather crowded for a weekday, so i would hate to see the crowds on a weekend. All the rooms and halls were stunning, especially the Battles Gallery. The hall of mirrors was very popular, and would be best seen without it full of tourists. The gardens are huge and pleasant to walk around, even if it had just finished raining.
Spent some time walking around the town of Versailles, which is not very big. All the tourists make a bee line straight for the Palace and back to the train station.
On the way back i got off at the Eiffel Tower station to see the tower and then walked to the Arc de Triomphe. A walk along the Avenue de la Grande Armee was great as it has some many motorcycle and scooter shops, nearly all makes were present. Plus by mid afternoon the clouds started to go and out came the sun.
After that i headed back to my accommodation at Paris Nord, a bit of a sleazy area compared to other parts i had been to today.
I learn about the attacks in Paris after switching on the tv. Terrible. The advisory is to stay indoors, but as this is my last day i will venture out. After walking the streets its hard to tell if people have heeded the warning. Some parts of the city are busy, while other parts are deserted. There are plenty of armed forces on the streets. Half the big shops on the Champs Elysees are closed. Plenty of news crews at all the main attractions where people are laying flowers etc.
Tomorrow its the Thalys train to Amsterdam, its a 300kph train. I am only staying in Amsterdam for 1 night before flying to Iceland, and hopefully i will see the Northern lights
