Brenton Kovacs's Travels
Another travel day from Bordeaux to Rennes. Rennes is heading west and close to the west coast. The reason for going to Rennes is it is about an hour away from the famous Mont Saint Michel, and has a dedicated direct bus.
It was such a nice sunny day and the lovely green countryside made the time pass quickly. I arrive into Rennes about 5.30pm and head to my accommodation.
Its a hour bus ride to get to Mont St Michel. Once there its a 2k walk on the board walk to get to MSM. You can take a free bus, but walking is better for me. This is one very cool place. The small cobble-stoned streets are wonderful. The Abbey is just incredible. Entrance to the Abbey is 9 euro, which i thought was a little high, that was until i started the tour. There are huge rooms after huge rooms. Fireplaces that you can walk into without ducking, amazing. The views are brilliant, pity the tide wasn't in as it makes for a great photo. This is a very memorable place one can visit, and after a long wait i have finally made it, and am glad i did.
My last day in Rennes is a little disappointing. For starters its raining, plus its a public holiday, so pretty much everything is closed. Oh well its only 1 day. Thursday is a travel day, a bus to Paris. I have been to Paris a few years ago, but made the mistake of not seeing the Palace of Versailles.
Rennes is a very quaint little town. A great mixture of some really old preserved buildings to lots of new apartments going up around the city. It has nothing famous to see, which makes it a nice place to just walk the streets.
