We left Germany first thing this morning for the drive North into Denmark. It was a fairly unremarkable drive with lots of lane closures reminding us of the M3 and home and so we were all pleased to eventually pull into Ribe Camping, buy their last loaf of bread, park up on a huge grassy pitch 100m away from an epic playground, have a quick lunch and start living life Danishly.
We cycled into Ribe to see "the oldest town in Denmark". It was pretty with the cobblestone streets, 16th century houses and watermills but our over-travelled(?) children seemed more excited to spot a Tiger (the shop, not the animal) and we became almost as excited once we realised they sold affordable ice-creams! After a quick look round the town and a visit to a cash machine to obtain some krone we returned to the campsite via a pleasingly well-stocked supermarket... it's amazing how the simple things can become so exciting - and how in a foreign country everyone becomes interested in the supermarket shop!
Back to the campsite for a bbq and to test out the new footballs before returning to Ribe for the Night-watchman tour - following the route that the night-watchman used to take to keep 'law and order' in the streets whilst listening to his songs and stories.... it was interesting but the English translation seemed to be about 20% of the Danish story and we seemed to be missing all the jokes so we snuck off after about half an hour to cycle back to Bob.
We all settled in for the night except Roger who decided to make a third trip into the town to find a pub to watch the football.... some things never change!
