Caught an early bus into Aarhus (Denmark's second largest city after Copenhagen) and headed straight to an open-air museum called "Den Gamle By." It was an engaging museum and consisted of 75 half-timbered houses brought from all corners of Denmark and reconstructed as a market town from the era of Hans Christian Anderson.
The children enjoyed going in all the old houses, shops, blacksmiths, workshops and trying the old fairground rides. However, the museum had also recreated neighbourhoods from 1927 and 1974. The latter neighbourhood provided the most fun for the children as they could use old-style dial telephones (scarily the ones we were brought up with when children) to call other phones in houses/shops throughout the museum. Daniel enjoyed chatting on the phone with a man called Dave explaining he was an 8-year boy who was enjoying the museum. Megan enjoyed using an old-style typewriter although she was surprised there was no "delete" button!
All in all, a good day but we were completely shattered by closing time so an early night once back at the campsite.
