After washing all the red dust off the caravan this morning we left Cooinda for the short drive to Jabiru.

After setting up camp we then drove half an hour to the cusp of Arnhem Land to a place called Ubirr, the home to aboriginal rock art said to be up to 20,000 years old. The art depicts pictures of animals hunted for food, x-ray art (where bones and internal organs were painted), as well as the first contact with European people. It is said that the red and yellow ochre used to paint seeps over 10mm into the rock, allowing it to last thousands of years after errosion. The paintings were amazing to look at.

We also walked to the Nadab lookout at Ubirr, a stunning 360 degree view of Kakadu (said to be one of the best views in Kakadu).

As the temparature was 35 degrees (again) plenty of fluids (and maybe an ice cream each) were required after the walk. These were enjoyed at Cahills Crossing, the entrance to Arnhem Land - a short drive down the road where a crossing of the river was infested by salties. The idiots who needed photo's and walked the crossing deserved to be eaten (I had the camera ready).
