We finally left Katherine today to head further north, into the Kakadu region. Firstly we back tracked in to view Edith Falls, a lovely large waterhole filled from the falls and into the Katherine River. We contemplated staying here the night however after morning tea ventured on to our intended destination - Gunlom Waterfall.

After entering the Kakadu National Park we travelled 12kms before letting the tyre pressure down for 37km of unsealed road. At 35 degrees it felt so much hotter with dust and dirt underfoot rather than the green lawn of Katherine. Not sure this is a great idea.

Once setup we headed down to the waterhole for an intended swim to cool down. As it is dry season the waterfall was hardly running however the waterhole at the base of the rock face with water trickling down was still a great sight.

After viewing the crocodile warning sign there was no way Penny was going to enter the waterhole. My theory of swimming behind other swimmers was not considered. When we later asked the ranger if croc's were in the bottom waterhole he advised to swim at own risk, however no crocs are in the upper waterhole. Oh well, cold shower, fire up the generator and whack the air conditioner on.

After dinner we were then treated to a 45min slide show detailing the history of Gunlom from uranium mining, to buffalo farming up until the land being handed back to its traditional owners.

9.30pm and still 28 degrees, going to be a tough night sleep.
