Today is our last day as the Euro six and the sun is shining. We have been very lucky with the weather. After breakfast we pack up for the last time. The final leg of our journey is returning to Emsworth in England.
Our trip is about 4 hours to Dunkirk ferry terminal for the 4pm departure. We decided to leave a little earlier to make sure we arrive on time to catch the ferry. Traffic has been very unpredictable and you don't know where it may be. But there will be some somewhere based on our experience. However the trip was uneventful until just outside Dunkirk we had a hiccough with the satnav and was heading to Dunkirk centre instead the ferry terminal. We had plenty of time and arrived an hour before our departure time.
We stopped for a snack midway at a service centre. Paul was going to buy a Lion Bar but I convinced him not to buy one as we had some in the fridge. Unfortunately during the trip to Dunkirk, with John and Trevor in camper, they had helped themselves to the Lion bars unbeknown to us. They thought they had been caught as we overtook them just outside of Dunkirk. This was the first time in the whole trip we did not have the camper in front of the car. I apologised to Paul that he didn't get his treat.
Getting through customs was a little tedious. We went through French and then English customs and John and I had to fill out a declaration stating how long we were staying in England for. No issues and we were on our way across the English Channel. We enjoyed lunch while relaxing on the ferry. I managed to get some Lion bars for Paul on the ferry so he didn't miss out after all.
We arrived in Dover and had an uneventful trip back till about 45 mins from Emsworth and as usual hit traffic. It was good to pull in at Wickor Close after a long day on the road. I think it was a relief for everyone as we were all tired. But the trip was not over as we immediately emptied the car and camper of all our belongings and food so that it would not have be done in the morning. Paul and Pat said their goodbyes to return to their home.
Much to Dee's surprise everything was in order at home. There had been storms whilst we were away and there was concern that maybe the power switch may have been tripped and the fridge and freezer defrosted. Also the chimney is covered in plastic from a previous leak. Everything was good.
Well that was the most wonderful trip organised for us. We have to thank Trevor, Dee, Pat and Paul for being such magnificent hosts and organising such an unforgettable holiday one to cherish and remember. The blog has allowed us to remember the adventures we went on and share it with our family and friends.
We have completed a part of our holiday but there is still 18 days to go and more to come. So stay tuned. xxxxx
