We enjoyed fresh baguettes and croissants for breakfast that Dee had ordered on our arrival last night. We were off to an early start today about 10am.
The trip was to take 3½ hrs but about 15 kms from our campsite in Luxembourg we hit traffic. When we had stopped for lunch earlier there were many trucks parked at the service centre. I haven't seen so many trucks in one place before. As it happened the German border was closed to all trucks due to a public holiday so the motorway was totally blocked. They had to park in the breakdown lane so all other traffic could pass. Once we got through the last 15kms after 1½hrs the Luxembourg customs were letting some trucks through but others were being searched on the off ramp. I felt sorry for everyone trying to get through on the motorway this afternoon.
It was good to finally arrive at our destination, the Kockelscheuer campsite. We stayed there on our way to Italy as well. As we drove in I noticed a restaurant, La Duchessa, next door at the sport and golf centre. It was decided we would go there for tea.
It was quite a posh restaurant with very pleasant, helpful staff. Our waiter was very obliging in interpreting the menu as it was in French and Dee was able to translate most of it with his descriptions. He was also very happy to have his photo taken by Paul. The meal was very nice and we all enjoyed it. All our plates were empty including the desserts.
After dinner Pat and I went back to the camper while the rest stayed to watch the England versus Uruguay football match at the restaurant. Trevor arrived back not much after us finding the match frustrating. John ended up returning back early as well leaving Dee and Paul to watch the whole game. England lost as expected. The reviews were not good for the English team.
That ends another great day regardless of the traffic delays. Tomorrow we will be the last leg of our trip back to England.
