Overcast today but not raining at the moment. We got up late today. Having a day of visiting the area John grew up in Broadstairs, St Peters and Margate. By the time we finished breakfast the weather was clearing.
Went shopping in Deal for groceries and things we had forgotten to pack. We had coffee at Janet and Alan's house outside of Deal. It is small community of about 30 permanent mobile homes out in the middle of nowhere. Everyone was out cycling as it was Sunday and it was difficult negotiating the roads when they are so narrow.
The day is becoming sunny and warm. We had lunch at Toby Carvery at Broadstairs. Compared to our meal last night it was great. It does roasts and then you can dish up as much veggies and Yorkshire puddings as you like. Some of the Yorkshire puddings were as big as a bowl. For £10 each it was well worth it. The desserts were very nice as well. Trevor and Paul each had a sundae for 2 and didn't share.
Next we headed for St Peters to the house that John lived in as a child. It is called 'Holly Cottage' and it was still there although the fields that surrounded it have been replaced by housing. He then directed us to centre of Broadstairs where the roads are really narrow and you can see the oceans through side streets that lead to the ocean. It is a very busy place with people everywhere heading down to the ocean. Wasn't able to get photos as the roads were too narrow and there was nowhere to stop.
Paul drove along a road that went close to the coast. As we neared Margate, where John was born, there were huge white cliffs. The view was breathtaking. There castles on each side of the bay. The beach was actually sand. A real beach. All the beaches so far have been pebbles.
The 7 seater car we have is comfortable to ride in and gives us access to places we would not be able to go to in the camper. Only thing when everyone got out they forgot me because I was in the very back seat. I don't mind being in the back as I have lots of room but I can't take many photos as the window is a bit small. Oh well can't have everything.
Till tomorrow. A big day ahead.
