This was another short stop. We made our way to Cloncurry and Jim suggested a caravan park with power instead of the free camp that we were going to stay in. Smart thinking as it was waaaaarm!! We chilled out in the pool and even Charli had a dip (whoops!!) She loved it. We had a drive into town and bought a roast for dinner. The trip to Normanton was only 4 1/2 hours but it felt like forever!! Most of the road was a single but two-way lane. Heaps of road trains came the other way and the first small truck that went by we got half way off the road so we could get past it. Bad move! The truck flicked up a rock that chipped our windscreen. boo!!! From then on we pulled off the road and stopped so that the trucks could have the entire road...which means no flicked up stones! We made our way from The Lion's Den quite early and thought we'd stay at a free camp about 5 hours away. After about 3 hours we had already arrived a the free camp, so we decided to continue! At about 3pm we arrived at Mount Surprise and what a surprise it was!! We met Rusself, the owner, as he walked past us with his pet snake Clancy. He puts on free snake shows for his guests and tour groups that pass through. We enjoyed an hour show and got to hold the sna...

Half an hour away from Cooktown is a cool place called The Lion's Den. It's a great pub with heaps of character. We chose a non-powered site and set up for one night. After a little rest we went for a swim in the fresh water river next to the camp. We were a litle hesitant, even though everyone said there were no crocs in there. After a little while we relaxed and followed Charli in. It was so lovely and cool, which was nice compared to the heat of the sun!...

We had a fabulous time in Cooktown! We pulled into the caravan park and were welcomed by a man in only his shorts who pointed us to the site. It was an awesome site with big shade sails over the top of them. That meant we didn't need to put the awning up! It was also very cool under it and the concrete didn't get hot either.
