Tin Can Bay, what can i say, you can lay by the bay, eat some hay or simply chill out by the caravan and soak up the sun.
The seafood in this area is amazing we asked for a kilo of prawns and she may as well of given us a bag of cray fish. The prawns were that big and delicious. they did go down well with an ice cold beer, sorry for rubbing it in!
Tin Can Bay is a small town but there is one amazing thing that you can do, its feed 2 wild dolphins. Every morning after the dolphins have woken up and checked the time they swim down to the yatch club at 7am sharp. You can purchase a bucket of fish (2 fish) and walk in the water and feed them. It was pretty awesome.
There were some interesting characters at our caravan park. One in particular was a permanent resident named 'Mary' who came out of her house a few times a day to pick up leaves. We had a lovely chat with her about...well...I can't remember because it was just jibber jabber, but she asked us to pick up leaves too! Crazy! So when we knew she was watching, we did our job and picked up the leaves.
To get away from our interesting neighbours and our yard duty, we went for a drive to Rainbow Beach, about 40 mins up the coast. It's a beautiful place! We had heard about the Coloured Sands and the only way that you can see them is either walk a million steps along the beach, or simply drive your 4WD onto the beach! So, as we were searching for the entrance to the beach the road suddenly turned into sand! We switched to 4WD mode and drove onto the beach! Simple as that! Andy was like a little kid...very excited to be ticking another thing off his bucket list!! We made our way to the coloured sands and were excited to see all the colours of the rainbow (considering it's Rainbow Beach) but it was just different shades of yellow and orange. Pretty, but not what we expected.
After the beach we had a few pints at the pub. There was a whole wall of photos of cars that got caught in the ocean when the tide came in! It was like the wall of shame. It was pretty scary to see how banged up the cars were. If you drive too far along the beach and don't check the timing of the tides, there is no way to get off the beach except for the way you drove on! So really, you're screwed! Andy gave up beach 4WD after he saw those pics. eek!
On our last day we saw people from the military walking around the streets decked out with all their gear. Pretty full on! They were training there and it wasn't until that night when we were making dinner that we heard the guns and bombs going off! The next morning they were role playing scenarios on the walking track and in the bushes shooting eachother other, running and hiding. Cool hey! Charli was not a fan of the 'loud noises!!!' so it was perfect timing that we left beautiful Tin Can Bay when we did.
