The trip to Normanton was only 4 1/2 hours but it felt like forever!! Most of the road was a single but two-way lane. Heaps of road trains came the other way and the first small truck that went by we got half way off the road so we could get past it. Bad move! The truck flicked up a rock that chipped our windscreen. boo!!! From then on we pulled off the road and stopped so that the trucks could have the entire road...which means no flicked up stones!
We arrived in Normanton and the heat hit us!! It had been about 40 degrees for a few days and it wasn't going to let up! Luckily the park had a giant (25m) pool that we enjoyed. We decided to stay there two nights as we were exhausted! I think it was a mixture of time spent driving and the heat.
We met a lovely couple who were great company. Maxine (Max) and Jim had been there are few nights and they ended up travelling to Cloncurry on the same day as us and we stayed at the same park. It's nice to know some other people at the park. They spoilt us too! Max made us delicious muffins and treated us with garlic bread which had been missing! :)
We didn't do much here as it was wayyy to hot!! We went to see the big croc down the street and later on that day we went to the Purple Pub on the corner for a beer or two. It's called the Purple Pub because, well, it's purple!! Who woulda thought?!?
Normanton was a good place to stop on the way to Katherine.
