We had a fabulous time in Cooktown!
We pulled into the caravan park and were welcomed by a man in only his shorts who pointed us to the site. It was an awesome site with big shade sails over the top of them. That meant we didn't need to put the awning up! It was also very cool under it and the concrete didn't get hot either.
As soon as we pulled up Andy looked down to a site a few down from us and saw one of his mate's parents. They hadn't seen Andy in years and it was funny to see them there! After a quick catch up we went to visit Kaye and Shane at their caravan park. They were just about to go on a lunch break so it was perfect to sit down with them for a chat! We left when they had to go back to work. We got back to our site and had a few drinks with Rob and Maud, followed by snags and steak on the BBQ.
The next day we went for a big walk down the main street and saw all the the statues and read the information about them. It was very interesting and the walk was beautiful, with lots to see! It was very hot so we made our way back to cool down. We also went to the museum to have a look around. It was very well done and was interesting. The museum itself used to be a boarding school, so that was really interesting for me as I liked to know what each room was used for (dining room, classroom etc)
Andy went with Rob to the "Top Pub" for a few beverages and arrived back just as Kaye and Shane turned up! They gave us some presents including some Cooktown stubby and glass holders, a badge and a shot glass. We love our presents! We enjoyed some nibbles and drinks while we chatted. They gave us some great tips for the rest of our trip. Kaye drove us upto the lookout to see the sunset. There were a lot of clouds around, so it wasn't the best one they had seen, but it was still beautiful and we got some good photos too! We went back to our site and kept chatting. After Kaye and Shane left, Rob knocked on our door to offer us some pizza! yum! So we headed down to their site and enjoyed dinner. Charli had a great time playing with their dog Sam and Andy enjoyed Rob's homemade scotch! I finally pulled Andy away from the scotch and got ready to leave in the morning.
Before we set off, we said goodbye to everyone we knew there. We dropped into Kaye and Shane and I got a tour of the caravan park. It is such a lovely park! Andy was given heaps of caravan magazines from Shane which was great!
It was so good to go to a place where we knew people and we really enjoyed our stay at Cooktown.
