Another day, another ferry trip. We embarked on our sixth ferry trip this holiday this morning as we went from Dublin to Holyhead in Wales. I have quite liked the shorter ferry trips as you are free to do your own for a bit and you aren't being sheparded around as much. Being that I am still sick (yeah I know, waa who cares) my choice of free time activity was sleep. We arrived in the north of Wales at around midday and set off on our journey to Chester to have a look around. Chester is a lovely little town with it's city walls still intact and some old style Dutch architecture as the staple style of building. It makes for a quaint little town. It is also home to the second most photographed clock in the world (allegedly) after Big Ben. The clock was installed for Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee and it sits atop the city wall very pleasantly. Our hotel for this evening is in Liverpool, which is an interesting city even without discussing it's two football teams (although it helps if you do). It is home to the largest Anglican church in the world (about time we had something for my supposed religion, I'm sick of catholic churches hogging the limelight!) in the Liverpool Cathedral. It is actually a 20th century building started in 1904 and finished in 1978 and it is quite bland. The architecture is amazing but it has nothing on the catholic churches for pizazz, wow factor and drama. We also saw the Liver (pronounced "lie-va") Building, the docklands area and many other non Beatles related sites. We did also see some famous Beatles sites, like the Cavern Club (which we went in) where they first got their start, the school that George and Paul went to and various other spots. We also saw the worlds only Beatles themed hotel (called "It's been a hard days night") which was kind of sad, but cool at the same time. We finished off the evening in the most lavish pub I have ever seen called "the philharmonic" or "the phil" for short. It is staggering how fancy this place seemed but yet it is just someone's local really. So I'm going to "let it be" and go and have a "hard days night" sleep. Geddit!
