We got up around half 8 and phoned to get the car brought up. In San Antonio is not really a morning place, so one of the few places open is Denny's. As you can imagine, it was queued out the door. We waited about 20 mins for a table. In the end up it was really good and we were set up for the day.
The original plan was to drive down to Mexico for a visit. We did not go there because it was a 3 hour round trip abs we are driving tomorrow. Instead we headed west to the hill country to find some of the wineries. We drove for about an hour and ended up in the wilderness. We then looked at the sat-nav and it had wineries listed. So we set course for the closest of an hour away.
When we arrived, we were expecting tours about the place along with tasting but this place did not do tours on weekends but still did 5 takings for $5. There was another vineyard close by and we discovered that thai was only a tasting place as well. They told me that they had had a staff meeting and will e doing tours in a couple of months. You would think that this would be a big earner for them but obviously not. Texas must be a state of wine drinkers.
After a slightly disappointing trip with no tour, the course was set for San Antonio. As time was getting on and our stomachs were empty we cut in to New Braunfeld just outside of San Antonio to go to a local bar-b-q place. If you are in the south at all you must try the local BBQ as it is the best I have ever tasted. You get plenty of meat along with sides of southern style slaw. Apparently 'Its in the wood and the sauce'.
Feeling full and satisfied we headed back to the hotel to sleep off dinner. I went to the pool later on. The view from the pool is amazing with a view of the tower of the americas and the moon.
Tomorrow we travel to our final destination of Galveston. It is about a 4 hour drive. Thats all for now and I will write about Galveston tomorrow.
