Another long drive is done and there is only one more drive left on this trip. It took around 4-5 hours to get here today, through Houston and some other country places.
We arrived around 3 o'clock at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio in San Antonio, Texas. We are here for 5 nights. The hotel itself is really nice. The room is large and comfy and we have a balcony overlooking the Riverwalk. The hotel was built in under a year start to finish and it was built by prefabricating modules with one room in and pilling them up. We were told that the beds were made before it was put together.
It is extremely hot here and you need to be drinking enough as it is very easy to get dehydrated. We walked round towards the Alamo and picked up the trolley tour which took us around the town and we saw different landmarks. After that we took a walk through the mall and headed back to the hotel for a Margarita. Definitely worth trying when you are here.
The river walk itself is beautiful. It is the San Antonio river that flows through here and it has small boats that tour round it and it gives you good information on the area and the restaurants to go to. I also saw people having a meal on these boats later on.
The Hilton has a restaurant at the Riverwalk. This is where we had dinner tonight. The food was excellent, it had a range of local style food on the menu. I had gaspatcho to start then is had the Alamo plate. This consisted of Chicken enchiladas with a mole, a chiloupa, a tamale, rice and beans. Far too big a portion of any human being, but ut was really good.
After dinner we headed back to the room for a rest. I am just going to head to the pool for a late night swim. I'm not sure what tomorrow's plans are. Watch this space to find out. Thats all for now and I'll let you know how tomorrow goes.
