Today began with breakfast in the room which turned out to be quite expensive. It was very good though. I had Belgian waffles and sausage and some pineapple juice.
After a good breakfast we got ready and set off for Sea World San Antonio. It is only about 20 mins away from the town centre. When you get there is is $10 for normal parking or $15 for Shamu's preferred parking. Get this one as you are much closer to the gate which is good news when it is 104 degrees.
When you get to the gate, if you like roller-coasters then get the unlimited quick pass and that will save your waiting times. There are a number of shows around the park to see and you can pick up a sheet which will tell you the times for each. Try and see them all as they were brilliant. We saw one with sea lions, killer whales, water skiing and beluga whales.
There are very little air conditioned areas in the park so drink plenty an take shade when you can find it. As it got to the hottest park of the day, we headed back to the car to cool down.
At it was so hot the decision was made not to go back in to the park so we drove to find an outdoor shooting range just south of San Antonio. Most places have guns available for rental some only have handguns an others have semi-automatic rifles and fully automatic.
Our first choice for the day was a Ruger 9mm which was a very nice gun to shoot. The second choice was the famous AK-47. We bought 200 rounds for this gun and I ended up firing 160 of them. The weapon got extremely hot and both my Dad and the guy in the shop ended up with blisters due to burns. It was a great experience and I have the bruise and burns to prove I did it.
Having let of 250 rounds in total, we decided that was enough for one day. Both of us were getting hungry so we dropped in to Sonic Drive In Restaurant for something to eat. Every time I have eaten in Sonic it has been very good.
After that, back to the hotel was the plan. I went for a long swim later on when it cooled down a bit. That's all for today. Watch this space for our visit to the Alamo tomorrow.
