We are now back in the tent. I love being in a campground again. Outdoor space for the kids, random people to chat to and more suitable to the budget! At this campground there are lots of families all doing similar or longer trips than us and we can swap stories and tips. Before arriving we had debated going to Kakadu but now we definitely will!
Emily falls asleep in the car as we arrive at the campsite and sleeps as we pitch the tent. This makes things easy!
We take Mark to Eva's cafe at the botanic gardens. William and I have talked it up and it lives up to expectation. This place has the best coffee we have had in a long time, the scones are light and fluffy and the praline butter for our banana and walnut bread is delicious! So good in fact that we make another visit there 2 days later (Sunday) and eat much the same! Yep, if I were to live in Darwin I would most certainly be a regular!
We spend some time relaxing by the pool at the campsite. William isn't comfortable in deep water but he seems slightly more relaxed so fingers crossed by the end of the trip that we make some progress.
On Saturday night there is a rodeo on in Darwin. We are intrigued and decide to check it out. It is like a whole different culture, checked shirts, jeans and bling belts. We watch bulls being lassoed, being jumped onto, and being ridden. Our favourite bit is when a bull charges the cameraman who stands inside a padded barrel and ducks down if he needs to. Definitely keeps him safe this time!
There is a commentator who talks nonstop. His favourite line being "don't write the cheque yet until this guy competes". He keeps encouraging audience participation. Mark draws the line when he requests we clap for the awesome sound system. It has been a fun but hot day and we call it quits at 9, Emily has fallen asleep in the Tula and William is buzzing from the Mr Whippy ice cream he has inhaled!
We all itch from the mosquitoes which are in action during the day. They are definitely out and about and will only get worse as we head to Kakadu!
