I had a really enjoyable meal last night with a bunch of people that spoke English. It made a pleasant change. I think there were about 20 of us, mainly Americans and we practically took over the whole of the tiny restaurant. As usual, a fabulous meal with lots of wine for 10 euros, unbelievable !!
I had the option this morning to chose between two routes to Saria and I chose the more difficult one because the route would take me through Samos, the site of one of the oldest monasteries in Spain. As usual, the views did not disappoint. The path hugged the river and coursed through forests and vales, anything that wasn't green stood out a mile off, such was the intensity of the foliage. It was a veritable garden of Eden.
I was walking with intensity and did not stop for a break. I walked for almost 6 hours without a break. So having left Treacasteli late at 8 am, I arrived in Saria about 1 30pm, exhausted but elated and ready for lots of food and rest in a comfortable bed!
Saria is a fairly large town and many Spaniards like to start their Camino here, since the journey to Santiago, being the last 100km or so, still qualifies for the Compostella ie the certificate of completion.
Today I was walking entirely on my own and despite the odd panic attack when I thought I was completely lost, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
