Well I really didn't feel like walking much today. The end is in sight with around 50 to 60 km to go, peanuts really in comparison. It wasn't so hot this morning which was good because my legs ached and motivation was waning and I didn't feel like walking much anymore.
The final stop was Melide a pretty provincial town with a very famous Polperio ie Octopus restaurant. Octopus is a delicacy of Galicia. Apparently the men of the region go out and hunt Octopi while the fierce looking very strong women work the fields and farm animals. Anyway, I happen to love cooked Octopus and this restaurant did not disappoint. The local custom is to drink wine out of small earthen ware bowls, similar to the way the French drink coffee. Talking of coffee, another custom here is to pour an almost neat alcoholic beverage into the coffee called Orujo Gallego. I haven't tried Potchine, but I imagine the two are very similar ! Anyway , it was all very delicious.
I met up with some friends from a couple of stops back: Anna from USA, Elizabeth and Miranda from Texas, Jackie and Rosie from Ireland, Phil from London. The hope is that we will all arrive in Santiago at the same time, but who knows!
I seem to have developed this very annoying irritant cough which I hope will disappear soon.
