I'd like to say a bit about the range of different types of buildings that are indigenous to each of the regions I have walked through: between Burgos and Leon I was made aware of houses built into little hills, a bit like Bilbo Baggins abode. Then I passed many houses made of straw and mud, a bit like the one the three little pigs built. Next houses for doves! I can call them houses because I wouldn't have minded living in them , they were big enough and beautiful enough. The prolific building on this area is the Orrio. It a small and delicately designed structure for storing grain. There are many in this area. Most are no longer used but have been restored as garden follies.
After the usual breakfast of cafe con leche and tostadas in the old part of Saria, i set off about 7 am. Another extremely hot day that made walking that bit more difficult.
The walk was pretty like yesterday in that the path took me through gorgeous picture postcard landscape consisting of farm land and cultivated private gardens. The cows here could win beauty pageants. They are all the most vivid russet colour with very large ears and are allowed to roam the paths at will. This did give me cause for concern, as I am not too fond of walking in cow fields at the best of times. Here, it was even worse since the cow pastors did not seem to be at all bothered if the odd pilgrim got mowed down. German Shepherds are the dog of choice here for herding these large beasts.
I arrived in Palas del Re around 2pm had a long sleep and then went in search of something massive to eat.
