The albergue last night was unusual to say the least. Essentially, it was a barn attached to a cafe with a garden In
between. The albergue was pretty much the only building in the village apart from a few agricultural sheds.
I had the pelegrino meal in the evening, but really wasn't very hungry because I think I had a bit of a fever and i was feeling tired. This turned out to be of a shame because this particular pelegrino meal was a bit different, with a chorizo soup and massive pork chops to follow.
I had a bit of a lie in the following morning and didn't leave the albergue until 8 30 am, a bit of a record really given my normal early starts.
The walk began slowly as the blister that I had squired the day before was playing up. I struggles to put my boots on because of the pain. However it was a warm sunny morning with no rain thank goodness, unlike the hideous day of rain the day before.
I walked slowly and didn't stop until just before the start of Sahagun. This is where I came across an interesting archaeological site funded by the EU. It was a church together with ancient mosaic stone floor and a pair of columns supporting statues of ancient persons of note of the area. These Columns also has another purpose, for they represented the half way point of the Camino ( see photo).
On the way out I had a bit of an embarrassing accident. No not that kind! I went over to investigate some enormous bulrushes and disappeared straight into a ditch, much to the amusement of a passing pelegrino , who thankfully helped me out, ruck sack and all. I was really red faced but could see the funny side and thankfully I wasn't hurt.
I arrived at the next albergue in reasonable time. It was an interesting building antique building. In the past it was a hospital for travelling pilgrims. The downstairs had been converted into a theatre area while the roof had been left open and had become the pilgrim sleeping quarters. As usual for 5 euros it was incredible value, clean and comfortable with decent washing facilities.
