Day 28:
We ended up our last night in Coral Bay by going out to the local tavern for dinner, my boy chef needs a break sometimes. Thoroughly enjoyed some tapas of fivespice lamb ribs and siracha chicken wings, very yummy and then a so-so plate of fresh local fish with winter veg , a bit of a disappointment but there were signs about town that an experienced chef was required at this tavern so maybe not too much creativity happening in the kitchen.
Today, just a day of driving thru sand dunes and non-startling landscape. I took a photo on the road just because we saw a tree. When 10kms out from Carnarvon the lands change from sparse desert to banana trees, tomato bushes and all things growing - so fabulous to see. The river into Carnarvon is the Gascoyne and is as dry as a bone, wide and tree lined but apparently the water runs under the sand and this is where they get their water from, artesian again but filtered by the sand.
Left our Gina in her designated spot and went out for a spot of lunch, found an Asian style café so enjoyed some noodles for a change. Then took The Fonz for a tub and scrub, all the red dust off but still needs a thoroughly good wash. I think it is all the road trains on the roads and the dust is oily so sticks well to the cars and vans, oh well that is a Nowra job. My bloke just came back from the showers and is groaning in ecstasy as he is once again unsalted and clean and I must say smells much better too.
Not such a big town, population of about 5000. We actually were able to buy some fresh fish at a wharf so that is on the menu for tonight. Close to Shark Bay where a lot of prawns, crabs, scallops and so forth come from. The streets are lined with palm trees and bougainvillea's that are magnificent at the moment, chainsawed into shape but prolific in flowers.
Now our brochure for the caravan park lists 30 things to do in Carnarvon whilst here, a few of the most interesting ones. Number 6: eat a HUGE steak at the hotel. No. 10: stock up on supplies at the IGA, No. 25: send postcards from the Post Office - really, No. 28: Eat Mangoes for breakfast, lunch and dinner - well that one may be good. No. 15: Climb our famous OTC dish, only 28 steps - I wonder if we can play cricket in it and if so do we take our own bat and ball.
Enough silliness. My very best love and hugs are sent to a very special someone today especially and she knows who and why. Teleportation would be so great now, virtual hugs just don't cut it.
Love to all xxxxx
