I caught the Kiwi bus in Te Anau at 10:30am to go to Milford Sound. The driver explained that actually it isnt a sound it is a fiord. A fiord is a valley cut out by a glacier and then flooded by the sea where as a sound is a valley cut out by a river and the flooded by the sea. The drive to Milford was beautiful. We drove through forests, hills and snow capped mountains. We stopped for a few photo stops on the way. At one place you could fill your water bottles up from the creek. We saw some Kea parrots and walked to a waterfall. We arrived at the ferry at 1:30pm. We were having the buffet lunch. There was a selection of things to choose from, my favourite was the beef stew and vegetables. We got icecream afterwards. We then went to the top deck to listen to the commentary and see the view. Either side of the boat were mountains towering over us. The captain drove really close to a waterfall, we practically went underneath it. We sailed along the fiord until we came to the Tasman sea and then we turned around and came back.It was a lovely sunny day so it made nice photos. The whole cruise lasted about 2 hours. We then got back on the bus and drove back through the mountains. We drove through a tunnel called the Homer tunnel which went right through a mountain and out the other side. It was 1.2km long. I arrived back in Queenstown at about 8pm.
