We were ready at about 9am. Aaron was driving the boys car and Michelle was driving the girls car. We set off on our 4 hour drive to Dunedin. We stopped a few times on the way to go to the toilet or rather Emily did. buy snacks and a CD so we could have music. The closer we got to Dunedin the worse the weather got. When we got there we went to the stadium to pick up the tickets and then went to find somewhere to park. It was $7 for 10 hours which meant it would run out at 1am! We all then went to McDonalds for a late lunch and then to a sports bar to get ready. We painted our faces and the boys were dressed in their knight costumes from the fancy dress. Finally ready we walked to the stadium. However it was now raining, thankfully the stadium has a roof so once we were inside we were nice and dry. Before the match started we were entertained by a marching band. Not only werethey really good musicians, they made great formations and at various stages some of them put down their instruments to dance! They did swan lake, the YMCA and finally the Hakka. They were brillient. It was then time for the game to start.
We had great seats, category A on the halfway line. The choir came out, the world cup was brought out and the maori did his welcome. We were sat opposite the tunnel and could see the players lining up. They came out and stood with their backs to us to sing the National Anthems. First it was Romania and then England. Time for kick off. It was a great game. England scored lots of points and the atmosphere was amazing. Mexican waves kept going around the stadium. By half time England had a really good lead of about 30 points, it could have been more but Jonny Wilkinson missed a few of the kicks. When he stepped up to kick he got booed which im sure didnt help. In the second half they scored loads more points and there was a kinda streaker run across the pitch but they had Union Jack shorts on. At the final whistle England had won by a huge 67-3 points.
We made our way out of the stadium and back towards the cars. It was drizzling with rain and was really cold. After dropping our bags off we went to the Octagon area where all the bars were. There was now an All Blacks game being shown in the bars so they were really full and some we couldnt even get in the door. We stuck it out for a little while but then most of us gave up and went back to the cars. The others who stuck it out only lasted another hour. We put the heater on in the car for 10 minutes and got into our sleeping bags. We put the seats back as far as they would go and went to sleep! Eight of us in a car! It was daylight savings so at least that meant we had one hour less in the car as the clocks went forward. It wasnt too bad. I wasnt cold at all but maybe slightly squashed!
We were all awake by 7:30am so we drove back to Queenstown and arrived by lunchtime.
