Day 13
De Funzel!
Im writting like 3 blogs today, and I hate trying to play catch up. I keep this little notebook in my tank bag on the bike where i jot down things that happen or things I want to remember. And I dont always have wifi to be able to blog stuff here on this site. So I need to do a little backtracking in my head
I woke up in Watson Lake at the famous airforce lodge, to rain of course. If any of you are keeping score its rain 12, George 3. Before loading up all my gear onto a soon to be wet bike again, I met two other bikers that were also staying at the air force lodge. Bobby, and Suede from Washington state. We all talked about bikes, and what not , and when they asked where I was headed, they said they were also headed to Alaska, and then we should all ride together. Sounded good to me, the more the merrier for sure, Especially on a crappy rainy day. It was good timing as I really needed some new found comradery & friendship.
We stopped off at the sign post forest so I could tag it with a splinter sticker (check the videos out, there will be one uploaded there asap)
So, after adding a little defacing of my own to the yukon territory, we all rode up to the Northwest to the town of Whitehorse Yukon.
We pretty much got poured on the entire day. which is just SO getting old now. Seriously!
Whitehorse was actually a pretty decent little town, so we stopped off at the Harley dealership where Bobby told me, he was gong to buy me a new pair of waterproof riding gloves since my riding gloves were NOT waterproof at all. An early birthday present he said. After telling him a dozen times he didnt have to of course, but he still did. very cool dude! So i got new gloves, and they work great in the rain...which I have a feeling I will be using quite often on this trip.
We hit up this little motel, and quickly made friends with 2 guys from germany. Christof and Markos, who were on their way south from Alaska and heading down into the western part of the USA.
We all went to get dinner, and drinks, and hang out. At this point I should tell you that Bobby and suede both ride full dresser harleys. Big touring bikes. They were teasing me about my bikes headlight being not as bright as their big hogs were. all in fun of course.
So, all in all, despite the rain, made 4 new friends. all good guys, and we all hung out , drank beer, and partied a little too late into the evening.
I think maybe it was still raining, I can't remember.
I'm still 7 days ahead of schedule. Only rode 286 miles today
total miles 4,250
oh, and De Funzel means 'weak light' in German. Which is now my bikes official name
AWESOME!
