After sailing from Picton on the Interislander and seeing Colin waving a red cloth and going inside to grab some breakfast while the extended family stood waving paddles wildly around the next corner we arrived in Wellington. The journey was really smooth and only took 3 hours. We stayed at the Top 10 in the Lower Hutt area of Wellington. It was the busiest place we had been to since Christchurch. We drove on a busy highway to reach the park. Upon arrival we decided to just relax in the park and sort some things out. It was quite nice, had a big kitchen with T.V so we spent most of the evening in there.
We didn't set the alarm and got up to rain, well it had been raining all night and looked very stormy. We decided to go out and grab some breakfast from the supermarket on the way to the city centre, but for the life of us we couldn't find one. Ellie was getting very eggy and she started to bleat "DO THE WELLINGTON PEOPLE NOT EAT, GAYERS", I had to agree!!!!! I took matters into my own hands and drove into the city centre and parked up at the TE PAPA museum. We dashed across the road and found a food mall, we grabbed a smoothie and sat and drank, it was very filling. We then walked around a bit and found Wellington to be very claustrophobic. So after some window shopping we decided to go up in the cable car, so we got in and went up and up and up. When we got to the top we jumped out grabbed a photo and then went down, down, down and ended up where we had begun. It was a very exciting ride ;-/ We then went to the TE PAPA museum and it was very intresting. Lots of hands on stuff and very much like science museum/TATE modern combined. We especially enjoyed THe eartquake house, the sheep kennel (live cam on the back of a sheep in a field) and the real people documentry. We drove back via a supermarket and had dinner and retired to the T.V room to relax.
Next stop Mt Egmont..................
