Well we had heard that Canberra was a really dull place, but as its Australias capital city we thought we would go and check it out for ourselves as it was only up the road from Batemans Bay. The first thing we noticed about Canberra were the confusing roads there, some architect got to design the whole city and the roads look really pretty on the map, all big circles and that but you try navigating around them!! We drove round and round in circles for a while cursing Burley Griffin (the architect) before finding a campsite called EPIC, noone was around to collect our money so we ended up staying for free...hooray!!
After we had calmed down we went down to the lake also called Burley Griffin and had a walk around, for the first time in absoutly ages we were quite hot..the sun was shining at last. We wandered around , although canberra is a city it felt more like a little town, it wasnt really busy even though it was at the weekend. It almost felt quite sombre! Anyway the next day we went down to Lake Burly Griffin again and decided to do a long walk around to look at the Parliament house. There is a captain cook memorial in the middle of the lake that shoots a really high spray of water in the air at a certain time everyday, we enquired when this would happen only to be told that the lake had a huge sewage leak in it so it wouldnt happen today! On closer inspection of the lake, the brown fish we thought was a fish .........was not.
So we did quite a big walk and then found a big shopping mall to window shop around, as it was sunday and we were still sick of pasta and sweetcorn we thought we would treat ourselves to a ready roasted chicken from woolies. Like two wild animals we pounced on the bird and felt like christmas had come early when we found stuffing in the middle! A few minutes later all that was left was a greasy pile of bones! We spent the rest of the evening with the most abnoxious stuffing wind ever!
So canberra, we have to agree it is a bit dull, but at least we got 2 nights free camping and a hot shower and a big chicken....mmm chicken.
