Ok well this entry is going to be the shortest ever.
We left Wellington and headed up the west coast towards Mt Taranaki. We stopped in a small town (small city) to get 2 new tyres for Rodney. After a brief lunch stop on a beach we continued our very dull journey towards the Mountain. When we finally got close we could see it in the distance and it was very impressive. looked just as they described, like Mt Fuji. The way it leveled out was very graceful at the bottom. We were going to go to New Plymouth but decided against it as it would've been 50kms extra and not worth it. we based ourselves in Stratford and this is where the forgotten highway begun. The caravan park we stayed in was very odd, the owner was odd, toilets were odd and some of the people sying here were odd. We decided to watch War Of The Worlds and as the scene where they're in the celler and the alien sticks his pipe in, the owner waddled in and turned the T.V off. I think Ellie was getting very scared at this point.
Next day we drove to the base of the mountain took a picture and drove off towards the Forgotten Highway. 150kms of strange wilderness and rolling mini ranges. It was very dull and the only highlight was the detour to see a waterfall. We arrived and found it to be closed half way into the 45min walk (could've told us earlier). Oh freaky thing, we took a wrong turn and saw a fence full of skinned hogs must've been about 50 but they all were smiling, bless them. After nearly 3 hours of the same landscape we got through a very dull road which was one to be forgotten. we arrived into civilisation and made ourway to the DOC camp within the Tongaria N/P.
