We were really looking forward to Taupo as we thought it would be similar to Queenstown on the South Island. Its nothing like Queenstown!!!
It was really busy and the weather was awful most of the time we were there, we did manage to do a walk to Huka Falls which were some very impressive falls. We had about a 2 hour walk to see them along a chrystal clear river, the river has to go through this very narrow chasm and the power of the water was amazing to see, it was churning up so much and at the other end of the chasm the water cascaded out with such force...it was amazing to watch! Kam had read in the good old lonely planet that there was a dam nearby that opens its floddgates at certain times of the day, Lonley planet said its quite scary so we were quite excited about it, we got there at 1.58 and they were due to open at 2, a big siren went off and we stood there in the rain with loads of other people waiting in anticipation.......and two measly jets of water spurted out...yeah (I needed a wee too so it wasn't good to watch!!) We also went to Craters of the Moon which was a geothermal park, we did a loop walk around these huge bellows of steam coming out of the ground, we saw a big bubbling mud pool aswell..it was really surreal to see! The best thing about Taupo was the fact it had a good smoothie bar which tasted nearly as good as boost juice!
But that was Taupo..or Taupooo as we have renamed it.
