Hi,
Spring arrived today. Unbroken sunshine. This blog is just a brief note to accompany the photos taken on my visit with Amanda to Kinneil House. This is the 16th century home of the Hamilton family and it was their principal home at that time. The house is not usually open to the public so thanks to Amanda for tipping me off.
If you can get into the house it is well worth a visit. Due for demolition in 1936 it was saved when mural paintings from the 16th century were discovered. In addition to paintings of the Hamilton family crests there are a number of biblical scenes depicted from parables and Old Testament stories.
James Watt is associated with the property and the ruins of a dwelling he used is out the back. We had a good walk arounf the estate and then had lunch in Bo'ness. The stovies in Brian's cafe are recommended! I also got an ice cream from Corvi's cafe which has a fantastic old frier from the 1960s which is still operational.
After lunch we took a stroll along the John Muir Way down to Blackness Castle. Great views along the Forth which I hope to have captured for the album. Had already been to the Castle and ran out of time anyway.
Hope you enjoy. Next stop. A wedding in England.....
