Went to Stewart Island today!!! Got a ferry (but it was more like a jet boat!!) over to the island and in fairly rough seas so it was a very entertaining ride! Arrived there mid-afternoon and our hostel was like a little home .... even had a wood burning fire!! So homely! We them met up with a couple of Stray people and went for a walk to the lookout on the island and then took a boat over to Ulver Island which is a bird sanctuary island. On the way over the guy stopped the boat and loads of albatrosses approached the boat.... there were about 5 of them only a metre away from the boat at one point! They look a little wierd... almost a bit robot like in the face! Ulver Island was very cool and we walked on the trails on it! Birds just aren't scared of humans so they come very close to you! we also had a go on a very cool rope swing on the island. Once back at the hostel we settled down to a game on Trivial Pursuits with some very interesting NZ related pop questions which we just couldn't answer, then watched the girls sky diving dvds and then watched Dodgeball! Our room was absolutely freezing though ... heating is very expensive on the island aparently!
