Didn't actually sleep that late. The first thing Zach and I did was to walk down to Cadboro Bay and look at the beach. It's where we used to live, so it was a little nostalgic seeing together again. We kept asking ourselves why we'd moved back to cold Edmonton. Zach was pretty surprised at how much had been done to fix Gyro park. But the water was still really high up, so we couldn't go for a walk down the beach.
The one thing Zach really wanted to do while we were in Victoria was go to Ebizo - his favourite sushi restaurant. So, we decided to head downtown so he could have it the first day (and maybe have a chance to have it bother day), so we decided to take the scenic route. Drove past all the fancy houses in Oak Bay that's right next to our place. Stopped at cattle point, but the tide was also really high up there as well, so we weren't able to go look through the rock pools.
Didn't take the entire scenic route, and once we were downtown and out of the car, we found out that Ebizo had closed for the holidays. That was a major bummer. Zach was upset, but my parents promised they knew of a new place that was almost as good, so we headed there instead. Zach was worried it was going to be the place that he and I had gone to before that sucked, but it was a completely new place that wasn't there when we lived there. I got a chiral hi bowl - what I always get. If you're in a place by the ocean and can have fresh fish, you get sashimi. Zach and my parents shared some rolls (spicy tuna and salmon that are Zach's favourite) and some sashimi. The fish was really tasty, so it wasn't too much of a hardship we didn't get to go to Ebizo.
On the way home, we decided to stop so Zach could feed the ducks. He loves birds, so we knew he'd love to feed the gazillions of ducks. He was a little wary at first, until he had the corn in his hand and ducks all around his feet. He was really excited there were so many ducks. He had ducks trying to eat his pants and stepping all over his shoes. Definitely a highlight for him.
We went home long enough to decide what we were going to do for supper - fondue. Zach had brought the pot all the way in his luggage and we had a whole whack of cheese, so tonight was as good as any other. We did need some veggie's to go with the fondue, and we'd been waiting for Zach before going to the Root Cellar to pick up veggies, so that's where we decided to head. Since we were there, they'd expanded and upgraded the store. Really nice. They even have a new meat counter! It always used to be just for veggies (mostly organic). They still had all the nice veggies, just more - still mostly organic.
For supper, we got the cheese ready. I've never made fondue before, and we were worried as we were putting the cheese into the pot (lots of grating) because it was separating from the oil and wine, but in the end it turned out perfectly. We had the usual, bread, veggies and the most important, pear. Who knew pear tasted so fantastic with hot cheese?
