Today I went to see Damneon Saduak Floating Market, it's a fair drive out of Bangkok into the rice fields and little villages. This is actually a floating village. All the houses are built on stilts, some are very big and they are connected by a river. It was like a network, there were side canals and a Main Street/River, all interconnecting.
They use 'speedboats', long canoes with a massive motor and really long propeller, to get around.
Then the actual market is full of canoes selling hot food, lots of coloured fruit and souvenirs. With normal market stalls on the river banks.
I tried some coconut pancakes which looked strange but very yummy, and somehow they are different colours, red white and blue :) I also got attacked by a lady selling tiger balm, she covered me in the stuff, all over my face arms and chest, she wanted to stretch my fingers too... I thought she was after my ring and camera!! So I ended buying a big pot of tiger balm Lover :-)
It was fun haggling at the stalls but if you didn't get a price you wanted and went to walk away the women would grab you and beg you to buy it at their price, saying please I need to eat and I will die... Which I didn't like!! So I got good at walking through shaking my head at everyone saying no!
This afternoon I went back to he Vietnamese embassy and collected my passport and visa :D all sorted and ready for the morning....
Last night I had some great street food, chicken and rice noodles dish for about 60p and wandered around one of their massive shopping centres called Terminal 21. It had 6 floors and each floor was a different country and theme, even the security guards were dressed in the uniform of that country :-D so I popped back to London for a 5 minute visit... If only that could happen...
