Today was very productive, after getting dropped off by the night bus at 4am and getting lost walking the streets with an Irish guy in the rain, we gave up and got a taxi to the road we wanted... Turns out we'd walked passed it!
I waited around in the cafe of the guesthouse I stayed at last time I was in Bangkok, for a reasonable hour and then set off on a very productive day :)
On the river boat to the first place I asked an American lady directions and we ended up having the same plan for the day, so we went chasing Buddhas together.
We walked around the walls of the grand palace, it's very grand and big... But the entrance fee didn't quite fit my budget!!
We then went to the reclining Buddha, who is Huge, I can't remember the specifics but he's very long and has lots of details especially his feet. You could also make a donation where you put a little coin in each of 184 (or something) pots... Well I couldn't even do that right, by the last pot I still had about 12 coins left so I quickly tipped them into the last pot and hoped no one saw :P
We then crossed the river and went to Wat Arun, where there was an old tower temple that you could climb up to the top of and look over the rice and city. I also left my mark, as they had a white sheeting covering some building works at the top of the tower and everyone wrote their names and date I visit :)
On the way the the tower we passed a ceremony room, where I kneeled in front of a Monk while he threw water over me and gave me a friendship bracket which apparently is for food luck, and I'm never allowed to remove, it has to come off on its own.
On the jetty on the way back there was a monk stood waiting and the woman I was with wanted to ask him what her necklace said on it. He wasn't really able to tell us but we had a good chat!
I did walk back chuckling to myself, how surreal, where else could you just walk up to a monk and start chatting away??
Next adventure... South Thailand
