Omg the weather was amazing today!!
My Flavela tour was rescheduled from 10 to 2, which was poo as I was going to try and fit a city tour in after, but instead I managed to cancel the Flavela and go on the City Tour instead. Seeing as I had just the one day in Rio I wanted to see as much as possible!!
So I had time to spare so I popped to the beach, played with the waves and had a quick toasting on each side :)
I completely underestimated Rio... It's massive!!
We went to Christ the Redeemer, which was build in 7 years as a city anniversary landmark and showing their Catholicism. It faces the sea and airport to welcome the majority of Rios visitors. It's 30m high and wide and the hands and head were a gift from France, to say sorry for attacking them!!
We visited Santa Theresa and the Lapa steps. They were built by one man and took him 10 years I think. There's 150 countries that gave tiles as a gift.
We then went to the modern cathedral which is only 30 years old. It's different that's for sure!! It's cone shaped has 4 strips of stained glass windows and lights over the alter otherwise all in darkness.
Then we went up Sugar Loaf Mountain in the cable cars. The view of the city is amazing and we got to see the sunset. Did I say Rio is Massive!!
I'm currently waiting for my flight to Bangkok :-D already delayed an hour though. I was struggling to keep my eyes open on the way here, so the taxi driver got me a shot of expresso!!! They have coffee flasks for free shots at the petrol stations when filling up :) great idea, it kept me going for another 2 hours.
Next chapter..... South East Asia!
