Cartagena is a beautiful old city on the Caribbean coast with little winding cobbled streets, pretty plazas and traditional balconied buildings covered in bright colourful flowers. Perfect for one of Tim's magical mystery tours! Plus there are some really bizarre streets too, with rows and rows of little stalls with guys offering the same services.....like laminating, stamping and typewriting on ancient machines while you wait! Next stop we headed to the national park Tayrona in a bid to contract the ever fashionable travellers disease Dengue Fever which was apparently gripping the national park if backpacker reports were to be believed! Tromped through the forest checking out lines and lines of massive red leaf cutter ants and a huge unrecognised bug critter type-thing to a little place called San Juan de Cabo which was picture postcard amazing. Studiously ignoring the dirty brown smelly flood waters from the night before....we pulled straight out of the pretty non-descript city of Santa Marta and caught a little local collectivo to a tiny fishing village on a beautiful cove. Settled into our brand new hostel complete with hammock and sea views and then hit the beach. The village beach was a tad scratchy and covered in fish guts so we took a water taxi to Playa Blanco on the next bay with our new travel...

Pulled into Colombia's capital city late and hit the sack shattered. In the morning explored the old town area 'La Candeleria' in the sunshine - one of the only rain free days! Visited the exhibition of Colombia's famous painter of fatties Botero including his classic pic of a chubby Mona Lisa and plenty of naked big butts. Stopped in a very un-touristy town called Armenia briefly before catching a little local mini bus up into the cloud forest of Colombia's coffee country. Checked into our extremely rustic mountain lodge complete with massive moths and decorative cobwebs run by an eccentric Englishman, his Colombian wife and their friendly pack of hounds.
