Stopped in a very un-touristy town called Armenia briefly before catching a little local mini bus up into the cloud forest of Colombia's coffee country.
Checked into our extremely rustic mountain lodge complete with massive moths and decorative cobwebs run by an eccentric Englishman, his Colombian wife and their friendly pack of hounds. Tromped through the rain to the main plaza for a tasty fish dinner before hitting the local bar where we whiled away the evening earning the respect of the poncho-sporting punters by downing shots of Sambuca tasting traditional firewater 'Aguidente' and attempting to play billiards.
Next day, after a very local breakfast of white tasteless disc, doughnut balls and eggs, we bumped around in the back of a jeep for 40 minutes to Coroca Valley to check out the famous waxy palm trees. Oh yes...We are such good tourists! Hiked through the hills fully admiring the well, well waxy trees until the rain got really heavy so we hid out in a tiny restaurant until heading back to town.
Abandoned plans to visit the nearby coffee plantation because it was still raining in the morning, and decided to get our arses to the bright lights of Bogota instead......stopping only briefly while camouflaged army guys carrying armed guns bigger than themselves ordered everyone off the bus to check there was no cocaine drug lord on board! Surprisingly, there was not.
