Pulled into Colombia's capital city late and hit the sack shattered. In the morning explored the old town area 'La Candeleria' in the sunshine - one of the only rain free days! Visited the exhibition of Colombia's famous painter of fatties Botero including his classic pic of a chubby Mona Lisa and plenty of naked big butts.
In the evening we hooked up with Niall and Sarah to sample some of Bogota's famous nightlife until the early hours. Ended up spending a significant amount of time eating and drinking (just to make a change!) because of all the rain....it's incredibly heavy, so loud and turns roads into full-on rivers!
So waited until our original hangovers had subsided and then walked to the posh part of town called Zona Rosa for a spot of shopping and a few more beverages in the hip drinking district. It was mental and absolutely rammed with so many super cool bars. Hung out in 'The Pub', a swanky Irish pub with VIP drink lockers and then on to a fab bar designed like an airplace compete with fold down tables, overhead lockers and fit serving stewards! Other fave places included the Troll restaurant, the hammock bar and Crepes and Waffles for a warming treat!
On a rare rainless day, we caught a terrifying funicular railway almost vertically straight up to the church on the top of Cerro Monserrate until the heavens opened again and we were caught in a full-on thunder storm. Dripping wet and ever so slightly fed up we voted to cut our losses and get our soggy arses straight up the Caribbean coast....
...so after a last minute visit to the very peculiar but super impressive Salt Cathedral....yes, thats salt, as in pepper, cathedral....we hopped on a cheeky flight to Santa Marta for some much-needed rays!!
