Have had a great week....the weather is amazing...its winter time so its cold but the sun always shines and the sky is perfectly blue...bliss!!
We visited one of the poorer areas of BA called La Boca famous for the football team where Maradona played and for brightly painted tin houses and papermache people! Had some more choripan listening to an old dude sing his heart out crooning old tango tunes!
In the afternoon we checked out Evitas Muesum and took in some tea at the Japanese Garden which was a tad weird being surrounded by little rivers and bridges in the middle of town!BA also has some amazing shopping malls.....huge great buildings with fab architecture and more importantly lots of shops!! And spent a very chilled afternoon monging in a famous bookshop which used to be a theatre and still has the stage and the seats round the stalls....very cool!
Had a wonderful Saturday......we were picked up by an Argentinian couple who I met at the gym and they took us to a really traditional parilla for lunch where we had more meat than we could eat!! Even food tramp Tim was beaten!
Afterwards we wandered round the famous Plaza de Mayo and visited the cathedral where very aptly the choir started singing 'Jerusalem' in English....oh Engand's green and pleasant lands indeed! Later we bought a kilo of icecream and went back to their flat for a good cuppa tea...Followed up by another late evening meeting up with fellow spanish school estudientes for mojitos and spicy thai grub.
The Argentinians lurrrrve their icecream and take it oh so seriously! There are icecream shops everywhere and they even do home delivery day or night....we have had a huge pot of icecream arriving at our flat for a massive messy midnight feast at least once!! And the flavours rock....fav flavours so far: Tirimusu, marscapone and Ferraro Rocher.....although the blatent winner is Dulce de leche......this is a kind of caramel which they eat with everything, I mean everything, icecream flavours, on toast, dulce de leche tea, with a spoon, in chocolates.....hmmmmmmmm!
Also went to the famous must do, Cafe Tortoni, which is strictly for tourists, but still put on a great, variety show style Tango show with mates Yori and Liam....
Time is flying here, only 10 days left before we are back on the road, it'll be sad leaving here, but the urge to move on is starting to kick in...Slaters xx
