We slept a solid 10 hours last night without waking up, only around 9am we heard the damn roosters outside our room.
Free breakfast and coffee - woohoo!
The maintenance guy told us about what there is to do around here and what beaches to visit, he mentioned Lio beach abit up the road which you could get a free shuttle back and forth from the main town. A very rich Spanish guy owns it and has restaurants running out of it and his own hotel and airport, he’s super environmentally friendly. So we decided to do that, a 3km walk into town to get the legs moving and dodge the tricycles, they don’t have tuk tuks here just tricycles (motorbikes with a side car, with a cover over it all and a car bonet stuck on the front) bloody funny to see aye!
The bus was funky that took us up to Lio beach, bloody bumpy the entire way! As soon as we got to the entrance the heavens opened and promised by the locals it would only be half hour long - they were indeed not correct. It lasted until about 1.30pm! But it was okay because we went straight into the bar and had an early beer. What else to do when it’s warm raining!! You don’t want a warm coffee, they’re only good in cold rain.
We sort of hopped restaurant to bar, they were all lovely! Before the sun came out and we ventured to the beach to sunbathe a little. The sign stated that beware of sand flies and miggies, Ellie was ecstatic especially after her last encounter haha! The sign also said they won’t use pesticides because it’s against the eco system and you should use environmental friendly odourless insect repellent. Haha!!
We weren’t too bad, they didn’t really appear and the sun was in and out on us for the afternoon. The beach was lovey and the water was blue further out you could see. The scenery very dramatic aswell with all the mountain islands off the shore, how is the world so different and wonderful everywhere!!?
We hung around for another while with a few more beers and made friends with the local dogs at one bar before heading to the shuttle only to realise that the shuttle wasn’t at 7pm but at 8pm. The security guards seemed to find my ‘oh s***’ comment funny ‘oh s*** we have to have another beer!’ Haha. Back to a different bar this time. We have a very full day of drinking beer but it’s been very much needed I must say indeed!
We dodged the bullet on the shots and rum, had a well needed shower and headed to bed!!
