Yuk! 5.45am wake up call for our day today!
6am tricycle ride to the whale shark encounter, I knew it would be busy but genuinely never ever expected this place to be so busy full of Filipinos and Chinese tourists. Honestly if you took all of them out of the equation you’d probably have about 40 tourists here.
We waited for about 3 hours before it was our turn to go out into the little ten person canoes about 25 metres out from the shore to float about the water and see the huge spotty whale sharks. Lots of people against this because they do get fed a little to keep them in that area, which I agree is wrong but they aren’t at all harmed or touched and everyone has to keep their distance even though they are extremely dosile and friendly.
Just spoilt that there are life jacket hugging Asian tourists getting in a puff and flapping about the place.
After we finally got in the water and had around half hour spotting the amazingly big and beautiful creatures our driver, Danny took us to the ferry port for us to go to sumilon island bluewater resort. It was about 15 minutes boat ride off the coast to the secluded island where we were spending the day and could snorkel and kayak.
The water was absolutely beautiful, it was so so clear and there wasn’t any trash anywhere which was a breath of fresh air! The sand was sparkly white too.
We headed over to the restaurant on the other side of the island where we were spoilt to a buffet all you could eat of fresh seafood and meat if you wanted, make your own broth, vegetables. Ooo it was delicious! But whilst we were eating looking out at the blue sea and the pool the rain appeared and boy did it rain!! For about two hours almost! It was insane! I can’t believe how much rain we have actually had for summer!
We couldn’t do anything but sit and watch it after we finished eating. Once it had stopped it was still super cloudy so we managed to go to the beach and lie on the sun beds for a while but low and behold it started to rain again so we gave in this time and had a beer or three on happy hour and when it did finally clear up second time around we grabbed a subbed by the pool and chilled there for a while. The activities were definitely a no go, but the sun came out for us and made it a little warmer to be able to sit and enjoy the place for a little while before getting the last boat back to the mainland at 5pm. Holy moly was it choppy!
The sun was setting and the wind was picking up and it felt like rain again. A long day out but it was nice despite the rain, we were ready for a chill and nothing left to do but watch crap tv in the room on our Uber comfy beds!
