Looks like I’ve been punched in the eyes this morning so bloody tired... the 5.45am wake up call and the 6am shuttle down the road to the airport was way too early!!
Everything smooth as usual for a domestic check in, never seems to amaze me as to how much luggage these Filipinos travel with they have luggage trolleys full with at least 3 big bags each it’s crazy! What are they possibly carrying, their entire life?
We were boarded and on the runway by 8am easy for the quirky flight to Cebu, a 1 hour flight was easy! Easier than what our next international one will be that is.
Out the plane straight into a Grab taxi and onto the ferry port, we made t through the traffic jams in time to get the 11.35am ferry to Tubigon on the Bohol island. We had to hang about a bit in the super crazy port where we had a go cart shuttle to the terminal where we boarded the boat. Someone had a rooster with them. Those damn roosters! I’m gunna kill one before long!!
We chose the business class for 20pesos extra, it only really meant that we were upstairs instead of downstairs. Easier escape route (I know you shouldn’t think that but we do, we are in Asia after all and you never know!)
We were only on the boat for an hour or so before arriving at the Bohol island.
Tired, hot and sweaty with the sun beaming on us we got a tricycle to the bus station but on the way there the tricycle driver suggested we pay him to take us straight to carmen rather than waiting on the bus and swooping and changing. We just agreed because we weren’t in the mood to lug our bags around. Only us would be sat back to back in a tricycle with our huge bags practically sat on our laps. We bounced and shock all the way up to carmen, it took almost an hour but it was funny! We must have looked so strange cramped in the vehicle with these huge bags everywhere haha. Our feet were tingling from the vibrations of the bike and the rickety road so we could barely walk into the guesthouse.
Not sure why they call them pension houses here, whether they’re all owned by pensioners or they’re secretly a pension home haha. It looked like a school from the outside, concrete walls and s huge concrete garden but it definitely wasn’t. We didn’t have too bad of a room, I mean it was tiny and we only had fan. Basically enough room for two little beds side by side with a little walk way in between, a table and chair and that was it with the bathroom out in the corridor.
Ellie was having s strange vibe from the place, there wasn’t much going on I must say but I didn’t feel unsafe.
I’m pretty sure I was too tired to care, after only three hours sleep last night I had to shut my eyes and have a nap.
There wasn’t anything going on anwhere in this town. We struggled to find anywhere to eat so we settled with 7/11 cheese and ham toasty and Ellie had a sausage dog and a bottle of wine each haha. We sat outside the front and watch the world go by (not much world there though tbh.)
A little more entertainment arrived though, the shop assistant must have got bored. He found to huge dung beetles and made them start to fight, it was pretty cool to see they were locked together with each other’s little horns. Very fascinating!
Then the real fun happened... two boys turned up on bikes. There’s only one word for them when you see two well trimmed American boys on bicycles with flashing lights in shirt and ties (ties dangling down pat their crotch) and a name tag. You can spot them a mile off! Mormons.
Then they introduced themselves to us, seemed quite surprised there were two white girls sat outside the 7/11 in Carmen. They were very proud and happy talking about their work for Jesus Christ and teaching the school kids here about it all.!definitely wasn’t up our street, we were sat here with two plastic cups and a bottle of wine each wrapped in a paper bag, poles apart!!
As if the awkward chat wasn’t enough they gave us their card. A Jesus Christ photo and on the back their group with their number incase we had questions. Nope no questions here sorry lads!
Then they whipped out their little notebook from the chest pocket to show us that they have been writing down notes of the local language so that they’re able to communicate with them easier here. (They all speak extremely good English) so I’m not sure what that’s all about.
Never a dull moment with us! When you think your having a dull day it hits you with a surprise dung beetle battle and a few Mormons asking you to talk about JC.
