This morning we walked through rice terraces this morning just spend the road from our place. Afterwards we were going to get a taxi up to Tegalalang to visit a cafe we got recommended that’s free entry and has some amazing views.
We stopped amongst the rice terraces because we found a cute little bamboo cafe with colourful bean bags and umbrellas with nobody in. Ellie and her fresh coconut if I had a banana juice. Such a lovey setting to watch the world go by! And of course the trend setters are at t again... people must have seen us off the main road and came along for a drink two by two after we arrived.
Afterwards we walked further up the main rice road so that we were going in the right direction for Tis Cafe. Even though it was still 9km away and we only had flip flops on we tried to walk as far as we could before we hailed a taxi down for the last 4km. Not a bad effort this morning in flip flops, a steady 7km in the bag.
Naomi and Steve met us at the cafe, they couldn’t believe their eyes the same as us really. The fact that this incredible cafe with a pool and such a picturesque backdrop of the rice terraces was free to use if you bout a £5 lunch or drink! There are entrance fees to just walk in the terraces and pool clubs that are minimum spends of £150/200 for the same view. Fantastic find!!
Lovely afternoon chilling by the infinity pool, we had a go on the big swing that went out over the drop to the terraces. Before leaving at around 5pm so that we could get back in time to shower and go to the 7.30pm showing of the Balinese kecak dance in one of the Ubud temples. It was pretty cool, not sure how the men make the ‘cak cak cak’ sounds with their mouth for almost an hour. Definitely be going to sleep with that noise in my head tonight!
Last day in yoga and rice terrace land today so we headed to the yoga barn for the 11am gentle yoga class. So excited for a good stretch and to see this amazing world renown yoga retreat.
...and it didn’t disappoint! It was so very ‘zen’ with all the flowers and Balinese styles buildings, bamboo huts and relaxed music everywhere.
We headed straight to the class, the room was beautiful. A big open space with dark wood flooring and almost floor to ceiling windows open and overlooking palm trees.
Ghekkos falling from the ceiling onto the floor (which was pretty funny) one scared Ellie to death as she walked into the room and another fell right in front of my head whilst I was trying my hardest to maintain warrior three pose whilst giggling to myself.
We were totally ‘zen’d’ out after the class it was so good! Ellie looked like she was floating. We walked around town and back towards our place afterwards, only to find us walking passed the monkey temple. In the words of Ellie “don’t worry about them we are outside the monkey temple and they are inside”. Does she not realise these creatures are anywhere and everywhere humans and food are by now?! And right on queue! Just as we walked around a corner I heard her scream as I looked 4/5 monkeys running towards her and I look behind me another 2 coming at me. We just froze thinking s*** they’re coming for us but they went straight passed my legs and all up a lamp post about 1m in front of Ellie, all fighting one another. I absolutely s*** myself! Ellie’s watch told her that her heart rate went from 70 to 123 in that minute. Haha!
Second hurdle of the day, we stop for lunch and Ellie is being drawn by a man sat in the restaurant. Haha!
Her zen is really getting spoilt this afternoon...
Little did we know after about half hour of her squirming in her seat uncomfortable with this guy looking at her whilst he drew... did he walk over with his walking stick and told her it was a present. We were in a restaurant that supported a charity for disabled people of the community and they came here to draw and sell their art. But this was a present for her. It did kind of look like her she was just missing the bird coming out of her nest on her head :)
We were going to head to a pool club called folk this evening because they’re doing free popcorn and scary movie nights every night in October but we weren’t feeling the South Korean train collision/zombie apocalypse movie tonight so we went for a happy hour drink (a glass of rum/gin with a dash of coke/tonic) and some live music of course! (Not that they knew all the words to the songs which was pretty funny and confusing when your sat singing your heart out!)
Steve and Naomi came and met us for a drink before they leave for home tomorrow. He got us a lovely cocktail before we got kicked out for last orders on the bar.
Our time in Ubud is done! Now to get Ellie home without her realising the gelato shop is still open!
